These new COs won’t have the same responsibilities as their 21 and older coworkers though. The bill signed by Governor Kathy Hochul includes a mentorship program, enhanced training and multiple restrictions for tasks correction officers can’t do if they are younger than 21:Obtain or use a firearm as a peace officer or as any part of their employment duties.

    SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -52 animals. That’s how many the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley rescued from a nearby home in Cobleskill. Many of those animals aren’t normally taken in here. “We have nine dogs, we have sixteen cats, we have two ferrets, two parakeets, two cockatiels, one rabbit and the remaining is hens and roosters,” listed Aprille Hadsell, Veterinary Medical Director. Corporal Amy Smith shared her story of becoming a correction officer and what the job means to her.
