New York State lawmakers return to Albany Thursday -- at which time they will either pass a budget extender or start voting on budget bills if a deal is somehow reached by then. We are being told they have a deal on one of the sticking points -- discovery reform. The budget is now more than two weeks late. There's been a call for legislation to freeze the Governor's salary when the budget is late.

It’s a major political announcement that you are seeing first here on CBS6. We spent some time this week with NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. DiNapoli has been the state Comptroller for 18 years -- he's won four statewide elections. But what about 2026? He will be 72 years old next year. Today I was able to ask Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins why they can't get a deal done. She told us there are many difficult policies in the budget this year that take negotiation to get them right.

What didn't make it any easier was a lack of road salt, and as we've learned, there may be one fairly new law you can blame for that -- and yes You Paid For It.A couple of years ago the NYS Legislature passed the Buy American Road Salt Act.
