JONESBORO — A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer has a preliminary hearing in June after being arrested for attacking an inmate on May 7. According to Clayton County Court records, Darius Roberts is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 4 in Magistrate Court. Roberts is charged with violation of oath of a public officer, simple assault and battery charges. Roberts had a first appearance hearing May 8 and bond was set at $2,000.

FOREST PARK — According to reporting by WSB-TV, the Forest Park Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection to an April 27 deadly shooing that killed two people and injured two others at a motorcycle club gathering. According to WSB, Donnell McKnight, also known as “1HQ,” and Nigel Blackwood, also known as “Railroad,” were arrested for malice murder and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

ELLENWOOD — The late James Townsend served with Clayton County Animal Control for 27 years and on Monday, April 28, the county officially renamed the Clayton County Animal Control and Adoption Center in his honor. A Navy veteran, Townsend began working with Clayton County Animal Control on April 28, 1997, achieving the rank of supervisor. He died Aug. 27, 2024.
