    Ron Taylor, a reliever who is often called an unsung hero of the 1969 Mets, died on Monday in Toronto at the age of 87 after a lengthy illness, the team announced. Fans of the '69 Mets, however, remember Taylor’s contributions to that team’s miracle World Series championship quite well. “Very sad to hear of the passing of 1969 World Champion Met, Dr. Ron Taylor,” longtime Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose posted on X.

    At about the same time that Jonathan Aranda’s fifth-inning, two-run double squirted past a diving Pete Alonso and down the rightfield line to put the Mets in a six-run hole, some of the dads in the sellout crowd of 42,804 at Citi Field on Sunday might have wished they had chosen a Father’s Day brunch instead of a trip to the ballpark. The Tampa Bay Rays sent the Mets to their first sweep of the season with a 9-0 victory at what might have been the quietest sold-out game in Citi Field history.

    Tylor Megill made so many poor pitches out of the 82 that he threw on Saturday that it was hard to pick out the worst one. It was easy to pick out his worst throw overall, though. It was the one he didn’t make. As Megill tried to throw Taylor Walls’ fourth-inning bunt to first base for an out, the ball slipped out of his hand.

    The Mets are concerned about how poorly Frankie Montas is pitching during his minor-league rehab outings. Frankie says relax. “I feel pretty good,” Montas said on Saturday. “Nothing hurts. Nothing’s bothering me.”On Friday night, Montas allowed eight runs in 1 2/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In five rehab outings, Montas has a 13.17 ERA.
