1. Introduction The dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) has gained broad scientific interest over the last decades as it is associated with the development, course, and outcome of a variety of health problems (1–6). Besides, the ANS is crucial for flexible adaptation of an individual to changing environmental demands by keeping its two major branches—the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system—in dynamic balance.
