The Education Minister, Helen McEntee, will update Cabinet this morning on starting reform of the Leaving Cert. Major changes from the next academic year will see 40% of marks in all subjects given for practical exams or end-of-year projects. The change is in a bid to remove some of the pressure from the final exams students face.

The death of Garda Kevin Flatley should serve as a "stark reminder" of the dangers of the job, according to the Garda Representative Association. The GRA says his colleagues are "numb" after the 49-year-old was killed in the line of duty yesterday afternoon. The father-of-two was struck by a motorcycle while carrying out a speed checkpoint in north Dublin.

Cars taking part in the Rally of the Lakes in Killarney this weekend will bear stickers appealing for information about what happened to Michael Gaine. The message on the sticker reads, '‘Mike Gaine - Help bring him back - One of our own – Rally of the Lakes 2025’. The Kerry farmer regularly competed in the competition as a driver in the late 80s and 1990s, and his farmyard is located close to the rally's finish line. It's six weeks to the day since missing Michael Gaine was last seen.

39 people have been deported from Ireland overnight. The Justice Minister confirmed they'd been sent back to Georgia after failing to comply with deportation orders. This is the second deportation flight to leave the country this year. Minister Jim O'Callaghan confirmed the flight left Dublin last night and landed safely in Georgia this morning, with 39 people on board. The Minister says these people had received but had not complied with deportation orders.
