Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has accused ANC KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Siboniso Duma of desecrating the Zulu monary, and showing utter disrespect of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. The strong worded statement issued by the party follows a clash between Duma and Traditional Prime Minister Thulasizwe Buthelezi during the commemoration of King Dinuzulu kaCetswayo on Saturday. The pair have also been accused of bringing politics into traditional affairs.

Blood was shed at the 110th commemoration of King Dinuzulu KaCetshwayo as Zulu regiments clashed with ANC supporters in KwaCeza. This comes as tensions flared following ANC KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma’s disrepect towards AmaZulu Traditional Prime Minister Thulasizwe Buthelezi. Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has suggested that the captaincy might be taken from Siya Kolisi in the coming campaign. Who could take over as the new Springbok captain? ActionSA has raised its concerns about the Education Department’s failure to screen teachers adequately. This follows a 2023 report by TPN Credit Bureau, which revealed that 3,6% of teachers have criminal records or charges. Among the charges include assault, rape and murder. The party says learner safety is at risk as screening only takes place during the registration of new teachers. All teachers in the country must be registered under the South African Council of Educators.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, says former president Thabo Mbeki is a political “flip-flopper” after his announcement on Wednesday that he would campaign for the ANC in the general elections, having previously said he wouldn’t. “You are not saying he [Mbeki] is a flip-flopper but if it was me who had said that because I am not your favourite, you would have called me names,” Malema said on Friday.

The cut-off date for voters who will be voting outside their registered voting district on voting day, 29 May, is Sunday, 17 May, at midnight, according to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The Commission says a voter may vote outside of the voting district where they registered. Still, they need to notify the IEC through a submission form within the timeframe specified in the Election Timetable between 15 March and 17 May this year.
