Diesel fuels are highly complex mixtures that contain apart from hydrocarbons, notable amounts of sulfur-containing organic molecules, particularly dibenzothiophene and its derivatives [1], [2]. Upon combustion of diesel fuels, sulfur oxides and especially sulfur dioxide that are generated can cause major health problems and environmental issues, like air pollution and acid rain [3].
