Slovenia has joined the list of European nations that recognise Palestinian statehood. Slovenia's main legislative chamber, the National Assembly, voted in support of the move in a unanimous 52-0 vote on 4 June, STA news agency reported. The centre-right opposition boycotted the vote. Earlier in the day, the opposition had tabled a motion for a national referendum on the recognition of Palestine. It was then withdrawn, before a second motion was rejected by parliament.

The United Nations human rights office on Tuesday called on Israel to halt its support of attacks by settlers in the occupied West Bank, which has seen an uptick of raids by Israel since the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack. The call came a day after Israeli settlers shot dead two Palestinians in the West Bank on Monday, after Israeli forces killed a Palestinian teenager during a military raid.

Hamas said on Tuesday it was considering a new truce framework proposed during the latest talks in Cairo, as Palestinians returning to their homes in southern Gaza confronted the extent of destruction left after Israeli troops' withdrawal. Six months into the bloodiest Gaza war, Qatari, Egyptian and U.S. mediators have proposed another temporary ceasefire, according to a Hamas source.

Six months after the October 7 attacks, former hostages and relatives of the remaining abductees have commemorated the fate of those held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Some 50,000 people showed up for the Jerusalem rally calling for the hostages to be brought home, according to the organisation of family members behind the march.
