    Join Hickory Community Theatre for the production of “Waitress” opening June 6.  Directed by Eric Seale with music direction by Jeff Hartman. The musical centers on Jenna, a pie chef and waitress at a small-town Southern diner. She’s stuck in a loveless and abusive marriage with her husband, Earl, and she’s horrified to learn she’s pregnant with his child. She receives support — and romantic affection — from her gynecologist, Dr. Pomatter, who is also married, complicating things further.

    In a press release from Hickory Fire Department, Chief Matt Hutchinson said “It is with a heavy heart that I deliver the news that no fire chief ever wants to deliver. Yesterday we lost one of our own, Hickory Firefighter Jake Bridges, while on duty”.     The Hickory Crawdads will put on fireworks displays after their baseball games on June 6, June 20, July 4, July 18, July 25, Aug. 8, Aug. 22, Aug. 23, and Sept. 5. To establish a safe launch/fallout zone for the fireworks, a section of the Aviation Walk and 24th Street NW will be closed to the public starting at 6 p.m. on these dates.
