WHKY-TV 14 is an independent television station that serves 22 counties in the Charlotte area. Viewers can access WHKY-TV through free over-the-air Digital TV, as well as on Cable TV, DirecTV, and Dish Network. The station broadcasts local news for the Greater Hickory Metro area in a half-hour segment on weeknights at 5:30 PM and 10:00 PM. Its main channel transmits in high-definition 16x9 720p on frequency 14.1. Additionally, WHKY-TV offers five digital entertainment channels on frequencies 14.2, 14.3, 14.4, 14.5, and 14.6. Founded in 1939 by Edmund S. Long, WHKY-TV is notable for being the first station in Hickory, NC, as well as in the region between Charlotte and Asheville, situated at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The station remains locally owned and operated by the Long Family under Long Communications, LLC.

A briefing was held at the Catawba County Justice Center this morning (June 24) regarding the ongoing investigation into the June 1 mass shooting in Mountain View. 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood was killed in the incident. Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown opened today’s briefing. He was joined by District Attorney Scott Reilly and Agents with the F.B.I., the S.B.I., and A.L.E. Major Aaron Turk with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office also spoke to members of the media.
