Two boat crews were stranded and required assistance Wednesday afternoon, according to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson. Huron Central Dispatch received a distress call around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, from a worker on an out of state environmental company pontoon boat.

Lexington’s council unanimously voted to appoint village trustee Bob Dost as the new village president at Thursday night’s special meeting. Dost, who joined the village council in 2024, is originally from Port Huron, but came to Lexington about five years ago to retire from his 42-year career as a dentist in Washington D.C.Also expressing interest in the president role was village trustee Christopher Cole, with both trustees questioned by the council individually at Thursday’s meeting.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a stolen tractor. The tractor, a New Holland TC35 Loader Tractor, was taken within the last week from the Minden Township area. The tractor is described as a 1999 or 2000 year model colored blue with a yellow PTO rototiller attached. If you have seen this tractor or have any information that could assist our investigation, please call Deputy Nick Gould of the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office at 810-648-5634.

A man missing from Fort Gratiot has been found alive and well, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. 69-year-old Robert Leon Smith was reported missing last Friday, May 2, with his vehicle last seen driving near Davison on Monday, May 5. Smith, a diabetic, did not have his insulin with him, and his phone was turned off after he told a family member he was in trouble. Further details about Smith being found have not yet been shared.
