Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif said on Monday that under the peace agreement the demolition of bunkers has begun in Kurram district. On Sunday, the Kurram district commissioner said that the process of demolishing bunkers in Lower Kurram as per the recent peace agreement was scheduled to begin.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered a terror case against “unknown miscreants” for their abduction of 17 workers of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), it emerged on Friday. Sources said the private PAEC workers were on their way to a project site in the Qaboolkhel area of the district on Thursday morning when their private coach was intercepted by armed assailants near Wanda Painda Khan in Lakki Marwat.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet on Monday constituted a Provincial Supervisory Committee to restore law and order in Kurram, according to a notification. Tensions have been high in the region since Nov 21, when a convoy of vehicles en route to Peshawar was ambushed, claiming the lives of at least 40 people. Ensuing tribal clashes have since taken the death toll . On Friday, warring sides in Kurram agreed to an indefinite ceasefire.
