A week ago, the U.S. voted with Russia in the U.N. on the issue of the Ukraine war. The same Washington that led the charge to make Russia a pariah among countries for it. This comes as the E.U. and Ukraine itself have been excluded from the peace talks for the future resolution of the conflict. But, as with the Ship of Theseus, we know that the Washington we see today is not the one we started with.

The widely reported speech of Justice Shekhar Yadav, sitting judge of Allahabad High court from the platform of Viswahindu parishad is against the constitution, its ethos and a direct affront to its basic structure-secularism and independence of judiciary. It tantamounts to sabotaging of independence of judiciary from within. The tone and tenure of the speech amounts to hate speech against Muslim minority in the name of majoritarian-Hindu religion.

Francesca Albanese did not mince her words. In a strongly worded speech at the United Nations General Assembly Third Committee on October 29, the UN Special Rapporteur deviated from the typical line of other UN officials. She directed her statements to those in attendance. “Is it possible that after 42,000 people killed, you cannot empathize with the Palestinians?” Albanese said in her statement about the need to “recognize (Israel’s war on Gaza) as a genocide”.

Gaza (Quds News Network)- More than 70 people, including children and women, were killed in an Israeli attack targeting a residential building sheltering displaced families in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza. Local sources and journalists have reported that two Israeli airstrikes hit the five-storey residential building, killing and wounding “tens” of people. The number of dead remains unclear because an insufficient number of paramedics were able to reach the site of the attack, sources added.
