More gruesome to learn that the statistics don’t reflect actuality and are only another weapon ─ humiliate the opponent and have the public believe the enemy ignores the deaths of its soldiers. The Kyiv Independent (???), Friday, March 14, 2025, General Staff: Russia has lost 891,660 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022.

Ukraine and the US recently proposed a ceasefire agreement, but Russia has rejected it and offered an alternative proposal. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that while he agrees with the idea of a temporary ceasefire, it should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the initial causes of the war. Putin’s alternative proposal undermines the US and Ukraine’s goals, as it would grant Russia significant advantages.

While living in the Middle East, a Palestinian friend taught me about Arabic culture, which he said was still preserved in Yemen. Arabic etiquette, he told me, was that a guest was to be protected, housed, and otherwise looked after. White House etiquette is something else. I was quite taken aback by viewing how Donald Trump and JD Vance ganged up on their Ukrainian guest Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

A week ago, the U.S. voted with Russia in the U.N. on the issue of the Ukraine war. The same Washington that led the charge to make Russia a pariah among countries for it. This comes as the E.U. and Ukraine itself have been excluded from the peace talks for the future resolution of the conflict. But, as with the Ship of Theseus, we know that the Washington we see today is not the one we started with.
