(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Following a months-long fight over a controversial commissioner appointment, the Cabarrus County Superior Court clerk has selected a replacement to fill a seat vacancy on the county board. Clerk of Superior Court Bill Baggs confirmed with Queen City News Tuesday that he has selected Concord attorney Jeff Jones to fill the seat of former county commissioner Chris Measmer, who left the position for an open seat on the state Senate.

HICKORY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The NC State Highway Patrol investigated a fatal crash that left one man dead Sunday afternoon. Troopers responded to NC 127 at US 321 in Catawba County around 2:10 p.m. in reference to a fatal crash. Officials say a 1999 GMC truck was traveling north on the US 321 exit 42 ramp when it drove off the left side of the road and struck a road sign. The vehicle then crossed over NC 127 and collided with a guardrail.

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 32-year-old man is in the hospital with serious injuries after being shot multiple times outside a fast food restaurant in south Charlotte on Sunday. The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Popeyes located at 9501 South Boulevard. CMPD responded to an assault with a deadly weapon involving injury.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Firefighters are battling a three-alarm fire at a north Charlotte Harris Teeter. Crews responded to the 8400 block of Davis Lake Parkway around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Shortly after arriving, the third alarm was struck. Ninety firefighters worked to control the fire in a little over an hour. Officials say there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Officials have not yet said what caused the fire.
