Last week, a faction of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) held grassroots elections in the Lango sub-region as part of a nationwide effort to select a new party president ahead of the 2026 general elections. Challenging the decade-long incumbent Jimmy Akena is Mr Dennis Adim Enap, a lawyer and former Makerere University guild speaker. Weeks to the commencement of the fourth session of the August House on June 6 last year, the US and UK governments, respectively, slapped sanctions on Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and several MPs, including her husband Mr Moses Magogo. Two months earlier, the House was reeling from the four Parliamentary commissioners, Esther Afoyochan, Prossy Mbabazi, Solomon Silwany, and Mathias Mpuuga, pocketing a Shs1.7 billion token as service award.
