In 2021, after hosting a Juneteenth dinner celebrating Atlanta's Black leaders and tastemakers, Janell Stephens got inspired to accomplish one goal: bring the energy of Essence Festival to Atlanta. Stephens, the owner of Georgia-based hair care brand Camille Rose, wanted to create an event that amplified "Black excellence" - similar to Essence magazine's annual festival for music and culture that's held in New Orleans. "Since Atlanta is home of music, it has so much culture here," Stephens said.

ATLANTA - The U.S. Supreme Court ruling that will allow Tennessee to continue to ban gender-affirming care to minors will likely affect a challenge to Georgia's law, advocates said. In a 6-3 decision issued Wednesday, the Supreme Court said banning minors from receiving certain treatments for gender dysphoria, the diagnosis given to most transgender people, is not discriminatory.
