The Georgia Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday in a closely watched case to decide if housing authorities in the state are shielded from liability when tenants sue them over violent crime or other dangerous conditions. Christina Guy, a former tenant at the Dogwood Terrace apartment complex in downtown Augusta, sued the city’s housing authority in the summer of 2022 after she was shot in the leg on her front porch during an armed robbery the previous November, according to court records.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate on Tuesday easily confirmed Troy Meink as the secretary of the Air Force, putting a former KC-135 tanker aircraft navigator and space expert in charge of the service. The vote was 74-25. Meink has almost four decades of experience in the military and in government, including managing some of the nation’s most sensitive satellite intelligence capabilities and the military’s space portfolio. He previously served as a deputy of the National Reconnaissance Office.

A victory by the Lovett girls soccer team not only would earn the Lions their second consecutive championship, it would send its group of seniors off with three rings in their four seasons. “Just being able to defend our title will be an awesome experience, and I know my girls are really excited to play for another state championship,” said coach Virginia Seiler, who has taken the Lions to state championships in 2021-22 and 2024.

As Grace Johnson sang at her University of Georgia graduation ceremony Friday night, she looked out into the large crowd and saw students embracing each other, swaying to the music while illuminating the sky with their cellphone flashlights. She admittedly was a ball of nerves on that Sanford Stadium stage waiting for her time to sing the state’s official song, “Georgia on My Mind,” in front of nearly 6,000 fellow undergraduates as part of the university’s new tradition.

What’s happening at the Georgia Aquarium? If you see a ton of police activity there Wednesday during the afternoon rush hour, it’s nothing fishy: Atlanta law enforcement officers will be conducting “scenario-based training”at the popular attraction. Nearby Baker Street will close to vehicles and pedestrians from 4-11 p.m. The aquarium also will close to the public two hours earlyat 4 p.m., according to a spokesperson.
