When a woman insults another woman, the woman being torn down isn’t being targeted for her actions or personality. The methods used to insult women online tend to ignore the truly offensive substance, often problematic content, and quickly resort to misogyny or petty comments. It is easy to label insults as such — petty or misogynistic — when it is not another woman perpetrating the arguments. When it is another woman on the other side of the keyboard, however, it quickly grows complex.

MVHS’ annual Club Information Days were held on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Friday, Sept. 20 during lunch in the Rally Court. A variety of clubs set up around rows of tables to pitch their clubs to prospective members using trifolds and other self-made promotional materials. The price of prescription medicine has long been a topic of political and social debate. In 2023 alone, the U.S. spent around $722 billion dollars on prescription medicines, or over $1,000 monthly per person without insurance coverage. This poses a significant inconvenience to many Americans, especially those struggling financially. Parvaneh Sanaeinourani, a district nurse for FUHSD, says that many variables may determine the cost of a particular medicine, especially its brand and its novelty.

When Literature and AVID teacher Megan Choate was in high school, the “Twilight” series, by Stephenie Meyer, was a huge phenomenon. “Twilight,” a four-novel vampire romance series released from 2005 to 2008, has sold over 160 million copies worldwide and spent 235 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Choate recalls the excitement around the books among her peers and the high praise for the series that inspired her to read it.

Each year, MVHS students must take one literature course as part of their schedule. For both graduation and UC/CSU eligibility, four years of literature courses are strictly required. Consisting of writing assignments and the reading of modern and classic literature, MVHS offers a variety of literature courses, starting with regular Literature/Writing in ninth grade and higher-level courses like Honors American Literature (HamLiT).

Since she was 8 years old, Sanika Kothari has loved cheerleading. She recalls bursting into tears every time a practice was canceled and she didn’t get to practice flying. However, when Kothari was 12 years old, she started All-Star cheerleading and was placed in the position of base for the first time. Now a senior and team captain, Kothari has continued as a base on MVHS’s Cheer Team. In cheer, there are three main positions within stunt groups: flyers, back spots and bases.
