GREENSBORO — Déjà vu left a sweet taste for the Hawks this time around. Seaforth came away with three individual state champions and its second straight 2A individual team title Monday night at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament at First Horizon Coliseum. For the second year in a row, the Hawks recovered from a dual team loss and redeemed itself in the wrestling season’s finale, winning with a team score of 149.

The fall and the first half of the winter sports season has already provided great stories and fun moments, from rivalry games to first victories to state championship runs. Boys’ BasketballNorthwood ended 2024 as the South Granville Holiday Invitational champions after beating South Granville 63-56 on Dec. 31. Junior Cam Fowler poured in 27 points in the win and earned the tournament’s MVP honor. The Chargers dominated Willow Spring 76-51 to advance to the championship game behind three double-digit scoring performances from Fowler (19) and seniors Isaiah Blair (14) and Hayes Burleson (12).

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held its winter 2024 Board of Directors meeting from Dec. 4 to Dec. 5, and although there weren’t many major changes approved, there were important discussions held on the landscape of high school athletics. One of the biggest discussions regarded the potential sanctioning of girls’ flag football, which the Board decided to table during the meeting.
