    On Monday, the Minnesota State Fair announced that The Avett Brothers will be rocking the Grandstand on Friday, Aug. 29. The indie folk band will be joined by special musical guest The Milk Carton Kids. The Friday night show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale April 18 at 10 a.m. and range in price from $54 to $86.25, with party deck tickets starting at $108. With this show, seven of the 12 days of the fair Grandstand acts have now been announced.

    The MMCD is anticipating the return of a particular type of mosquito, known as the cattail, that has been mostly absent the last three years due to three years of drought conditions. This species of mosquitoes hatches the previous fall, overwinters in the water as larvae, and emerges around the 4th of July, MMCD says. The three years of drought conditions impacted their habitat in marshes.

    On Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) provided more details about how the federal government slashing more than $220 million in federal grants is directly impacting the department. “The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

    The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) said that Morris Recreation Center closed on Tuesday due to a sewer line issue. Programs at the facility are canceled for the day. It’s unknown how long it will take to repair the sewer line, but MPRB says they will send out a notification when the building can re-open. Keewaydin Recreation Center is the closest facility to the closed rec center. It is open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
