COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - One of the few surviving World War II veterans got a chance to relive his glory days in the Midlands. It came thanks to a local foundation making this happen for other veterans across South Carolina. “I really enjoyed this,” said Bruce Cook. “It’s just great.”Cook, a 99-year-old World War II veteran, stepped back in time, getting an up-close look at restored World War II-era aircraft. It’s like a time capsule tucked away at the Woodward Airport in Camden.

Cayce, S.C. (WIS) - CSX Transportation has announced a track maintenance project that will begin on Monday, June 30th, 2025. The project includes the installation of new railroad ties along parts of the CSX Columbia subdivision. CSX officials say the project will take 6-weeks and is expected to end on 8/8/25. Crossings will be closed anywhere from 2-5 days, depending on the type of maintenance they are set to receive.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Twenty-four years later, the search is still ongoing for a missing USC graduate student. Shelton Sanders left his Sumter residents on June 19, 2001 to go to class at the University of South Carolina. After he finished class, he and a friend, Mark Richardson, hung out together in Northeast Columbia while they planned a bachelor party for a mutual friend. Shelton then began having car troubles and called his mom.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Columbia city leaders passed their first vote tonight to repeal the ban on conversion therapy for minors. It happened during a city council meeting Tuesday. First implemented back in 2021, the ordinance banned the practice of trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation or gender identity. You could hear and see the disappointment coming from the citizens who attended Tuesday’s council meeting. The council voted 4-3 to repeal the city’s ban on conversion therapy for minors.
