A national insurance company has secured a major office presence in Tampa’s Westshore business district, where it plans to create 1,000 jobs. Geico, a Maryland-based car insurance company, has leased 190,000 square feet in three buildings in Corporate Oaks Business Park, a suburban office park near the interchange of Memorial Highway and West Cypress Street.

The second phase of a St. Petersburg industrial park has broken ground on Gandy Boulevard. Seventeen acres of Gateway Logistics Center will become home to 322,000 net rental square feet of new industrial space — two 119,481-square-foot buildings and one 92,841-square-foot building. Developer Greystar has partnered with Boston-based private equity firm Rockpoint Group to build this phase of Gateway Logistics Center.

The property was once targeted for a 23-story student housing tower. The University of Tampa has paid over $10 million for less than an acre of land near Oxford Exchange — but officials won't say what they plan to build there. The university closed on 110 S. Blvd. on March 21 for $10.25 million, Hillsborough County property records show.
