Victoria Li, the county's 2025 Spelling Bee Champion, who advanced in the competition to the quarterfinals, was eliminated in the sixth round on Wednesday, one of 16 spellers eliminated. The Corona Norco Unified School District student, Victoria Li, also known as Speller #22 in the competition, has faced a variety of challenges on her way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Power Outage In Temecula Affects Over 100 Homes

TEMECULA, CA — Over 100 homes were without power Tuesday during a maintenance outage, Southern California Edison reported. Just after 8 a.m., Southern California Edison crews arrived to conduct maintenance in the area south of Rancho California west of Asteroid Way, east of Borealis Drive, and north of Cosmic Drive, according to the SCE Outage Status map. The crew was at work performing upgrades to restore power, according to an SCE spokesperson. A total of 115 homes were affected by the outage.

TEMECULA, CA — Maintenance work on the Temecula Valley I-15 Freeway will lead to a closure of an off-ramp starting Wednesday, the California Department of Transportation announced. Drivers can expect lanes to close from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the southbound I-15 Rancho California Road off-ramp auxiliary lane, Caltrans District 8 officials announced. The workers will be conducting "core drilling," a spokesperson said.

WINCHESTER, CA — The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau identified a 43-year-old man killed when his pickup truck crashed on the right shoulder of a roadway in Winchester. Authorities continued their investigation into the crash on Tuesday. Jason Walsh of Murrieta died as a result of the crash. His identity was shared after notification of the next of kin. The crash was reported at 1:12 a.m. Monday at Domenigoni Parkway and Red Root Road, near Menifee, according to the California Highway Patrol.

EASTVALE, CA — As school winds down for summer, the next round of the National Spelling Bee is in full swing for one Eastvale 6th Grader. Victoria Li, a Philistine Rondo School of Discovery, has completed two rounds, with a third to go in the afternoon, for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland, and has a long way to go in the national competition that concludes Thursday. At the end of round one, 134 spellers will advance to round two; 31 were eliminated.
