I love a good race day photo. Ever since I crossed my first marathon finish line in 2016, when the photographers captured me in my full Keira-D’Amato-victory-arms glory, I’ve loved hamming it up on the course and, better yet, being surprised by the grittier moments captured when I was wasn’t even aware a camera was focusing on me (yes, even when it’s a down step).

Last weekend, I ran a 5K marathon. After reading that, did you roll your eyes? Do you want to correct me? What if I told you I took a gel during the race, or that I wore the “illegal” high-stack running shoes I’ve been training in, and that I prefer sharing my Strava time because it was faster than the chip time? Running is often described as the most accessible sport. All you need is a pair of shoes and the willingness to consistently put one foot in front of the other, as they say.
