Langan Park, Sage Park and now the “Jewel on Joachim,” the Saenger Theatre. Places we take our children to feed the geese and swing, play basketball or soccer, or perform on stage in a dance recital. These should all be safe places where no one has to fear for their own safety or the safety of their loved ones. But now the sounds of gunfire and screams and the smell of gunpowder have tainted the air of all of these spaces. A life was lost at Sage and another at the Saenger.

Last week, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, who has been waiting for Gov. MeeMaw to step aside and readying to run for governor for years, announced he would not seek the position after all and would return to the private sector. This decision shocked many Yellowhammer State political insiders, who have been watching Ainsworth prepare for what seemed to be his “destiny.”kA 5:ClQ=ECQmqFE H96? 7@C>6C pF3FC? 4@249 2?5 &]$] $6?] %@>>J %F36CG:==6 2??@F?465 9:D :?E6?E:@? Mine was called the “Big Blue Whale.”It was a 1977 blue Buick LeSabre that had first been my grandparents, who passed it down to my mom, who then passed it down to me in 1993. I hated it. No one wants their first car to be a “granny car” that is literally the size of a small tank.

Mother’s Day is this weekend, which means some moms are anxiously scrambling to make sure their kids are as far away from them as possible for 12-48 hours, while others are using whatever emotional blackmail and passive aggressive tactics necessary to ensure their darlings are in their presence from dawn to dusk. I have friends who fall into both categories. There are those who want to lay in bed all day and binge watch something on Netflix and not have to cook or clean or do anything really.
