    Sydney Street in Mowbray was cordoned off for children to play For two hours on Youth Day, Sydney Street in Mowbray was filled with children. They played soccer and learned to skate and drum and practise the martial art of capoeira. The event was inspired by similar events held by Open Streets, in which streets are cordoned off for activities. Marlise Richter, organiser of the Mowbray event and resident of Sydney Street, said the event was a celebration of children.

    Shakespeare School Festival runs until 31 May at the District Six Homecoming Centre in Cape Town For the first time, learners from a special needs school in Brackenfelltook to the stage at the 15th Shakespeare Schools Festival held in Cape Town over the weekend. The crowd cheered after the Paarl School for the Neural Disabled performance of an adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the District Six Homecoming Centre.

    About 200 women marched to the Department of Employment and Labour in Cape Town on Tuesday. They are calling for better practices among labour inspectors when visiting farms and for stronger penalties to be issued to employers who break labour laws. The marchers, led by the Women on Farms Project (WFP), also demanded that the department increase staff and improve access for farmworkers to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
