    November 29, 2023 Grand Fork’s newest bookstore opened its doors to business on November 7th, and on Small Business Saturday, it celebrated its grand opening. Silver Dawn planned multiple events for the day and had great deals going on in celebration of a successful first few weeks of business. Their first event of the day was an author signing, which started at 10:00 am. Alicia Underlee Nelson, a local author, spent the morning signing copies of her book 100 Thing To Do In Fargo Before You Die.

    Like many individuals who are starting a career in academia, I often find myself overwhelmed with all the things I do not know. I am always finding myself at the intersections of subjects and fields. The further I get into my own education, the more I realize becoming an expert in one field requires you to become familiar with many others. This can seem like an insurmountable task that prevents students from moving forward with their own interests.

    On October 6th, Ferguson Books & More announced that it will be closing its Grand Forks store. Ferguson’s has been a part of the Grand Forks community for thirteen years and to many this closing has come as a shock. In the Instagram post announcing the closure, owner Dane Fergusons wrote, “13 years ago my wife and I took a MASSIVE risk. When all the bookstores in Grand Forks were closing, we decided to take a chance and do things a little differently.

    This past week has been full of numerous Homecoming events. Some events like the pep rally and the football game continue to be fan favorites, but it’s inevitable that some homecoming events fall short of the energy that other events excel at. UND’s Hawktober Fest was advertised as being a culturally diverse event.
