ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — A group of seniors who graduated from Benilde-St. Margaret’s last week are leaving behind a legacy of kindness. The students' “Caring for the Courageous” club raised nearly $19,000 over two years to create gift bags for kids in local hospitals. MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota is home to more than 900 active and unique water towers. From Rochester’s ear of corn to Lindstrom’s coffee pot, these towers are part form, part function. That is, until they stop functioning. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Health, at least 50 water towers in the state are still standing, despite being decommissioned. “It’s pride for cities,” Stew Thornley, an educator for DPH’s drinking water program, said.

DAYTON, Minn. — When the Metropolitan Council released its 2050 population forecast for the Twin Cities, one Hennepin County city was on pace to grow faster than nearly all the rest. MINNEAPOLIS — In 1992, the Minneapolis Fire Department made history when it staffed the first all-female crew. By 2002, women made up 15% of the department. But now that pace has slowed. “It’s definitely very heavy,” Julie Bode, a Minneapolis firefighter said. “Just knowing that yeah, three decades ago was the first time there was an all-female crew and currently there’s not an all-female crew on the department.” At the end of 2024, women made up less than 8% of the department.
