    After a two-week hiatus, Class 1A No. 5 St. Albert was slightly anxious as to how their performance would be as they started substate play. Their offense showed no signs of that anxiety as they rolled in a 9-0 defeat of Tri-Center on Tuesday afternoon at Iowa Western. After an official 15-day break between games, the Falcons were worried that they might have some rust, but they quickly came out looking like a polished unit as they pulled away in this 1A Substate 8 semifinal.

    Friday night lights were turned on for a couple baseball diamonds in Southwest Iowa. Tri-Center played their home-opener and AHSTW opened their season on the road. Tri-Center 6, Sidney 4The Trojans, despite missing some key players to state track, took the win in their home opener. The Trojans were held to just four hits, but thanks to a four-run fourth inning pushed through the night. Trenton Huebner, Keegan Cook, Braeden Meyer, and Kai Sonderland all had a hit for the Trojans.

    Thomas Jefferson rolled through their regional opener as the Yellow Jackets defense earned their seventh shutout of the season and Makena Kramer helped lead the offense with a goal and two assists. Also on offense, Taelin Minor and Ava Rief each scored a goal, and Lennon Simek had an assist in the win.

    Lewis Central earned first-year head coach Mike Metz his first win as the head man in strong fashion, 10-0 over in-city foe Thomas Jefferson at Bruce Rasmussen Field in Council Bluffs. The Titans sprang out to an early lead and limited the Yellow Jackets' bats as they earned their first win of the new season.  “Like playing the city games, because it gets everybody a little bit extra amped up,” Metz said. “I think we're a little bit more relaxed tonight.
