Canada Strikes Back Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the tariffs will roll out in two phases, starting Feb. 4 on $30 bil. targeting American products such as alcohol, produce, household goods, and industrial materials, the same day the American tariffs are set to begin. The tariffs on the other $125 billion worth of goods will come in 21 days, to allow impacted Canadian companies to adjust their supply chains.

A love for tractors and an admiration for John Deere green. That’s how you’d describe Steve Hamm, a John Deere mobile technician for 30 years. A father and grandpa, he was loved by many, as many in the community will tell you he was truly dedicated to his craft. “Steve was a pioneer for that kind of knowledge. We really depended on him,” says Chris Roberson, general manager of Ag-Power, the John Deere dealership in Richmond, Mo., where Steve worked.

With winter yield map meetings underway, Ken Ferrie says one question keeps coming up from corn growers as he talks with them. The question is, “In certain soil types, we are seeing a consistently poor corn stand due to missing plants. How do we figure out what caused the poor stand and fix it for this season?”One challenge in answering this question is that the evidence needed to identify the problem cannot be provided by the yield map, says Ferrie, Farm Journal Field Agronomist.

Livestock are higher Monday morning, with grains lower. Cattle hit record highs again to start the week in both live and feeder cattle futures. Brad Kooima of Kooima Kooima Varilek, says funds are buying but fundamentally the futures are working in Friday’s record cash trade for the fourth straight week, with the futures at a discount. The North traded live at $210 - $212, up $6 to $8 from the previous week’s weighted averages and some of the cattle sold on Friday are already moving to slaughter.
