SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — She was a Jane Doe for weeks after her death. Now Jaylin Perez is being remembered. “No mother should feel what I feel right now because it's very painful,” said Jeannete Gallardo, Jaylin’s mother. Gallardo has been coming to this trolley stop for months. It was the last place her daughter was conscious, on January 10th. “I want answers. My daughter was sitting here. Dead for 5 hours. No one saw her,” said Gallardo. That same spot, now covered in candles and flowers.

“It was like a thing lingering in the back of my head for a long time,” said Shayne M. Oseguera, a visual artist and muralist. What started as an idea, turned into a reality. But one, that didn't last long. “Somebody came with a roller and pretty much erased a good 80% of the mural,” said Oseguera. Back in October, ABC 10News featured the mural’s process- as the community came together to paint it. “To be able to have this highlighted on a local news was unexpected, but very welcomed.

It was a rainy afternoon in Ramona. But that didn't stop the dozens lining the sidewalks on Main Street to remember the late fire captain, Rebecca Marodi. Or, as they knew her, Becky. “She was the Princess Diana of our neighborhood and of San Diego. She would give her heart to anybody at any time, help any stray animal, no questions asked,” said Amber Webster, Marodi’s next-door neighbor. Webster said she heard the emotional moments after Marodi’s body was found.

The fencing and caution tape on Syracuse Avenue isn't new for neighbors in University City. Those who live right next to this sinkhole say it's been a problem for a year, almost to the day. “I actually moved in, I wanna say maybe one or two days before it first opened up about a year ago. Just kind of surprised that it's, you know, still an issue for this long,” said Colin Grubensky, a University City resident. Grubensky’s nextdoor neighbor has been a sinkhole ever since he moved in.

The freedom for Gaslamp goers to walk throughout Fifth Avenue without the fear of cars coming through is just one of the factors of its bustling nightlife. But with budget issues looming- the bollards might not be installed anymore. “It's like having a park and then shutting it down,” said Gaslamp Business Vendor, Franky Lomeli.
