The annual Steven McDonald Award is a distinguished honor for a Rangers player to receive as much as it is a cherished tradition for the New York Rangers community. Since its inception in 1988, the award is presented to a player, voted on by the fans, that "goes above and beyond the call of duty." The award's namesake comes from late New York City Detective Steven McDonald who was shot in the line of duty in the summer of 1986 and loved this team as much as anyone.

After three days off following the three-game California road trip, the Rangers have returned home for an interconference matchup against the Minnesota Wild. After Boston College was eliminated for the 2025 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship this weekend, all eyes in Rangerstown turned to 2023’s 23rd overall pick. As expected, Perreault left collegiate hockey and signed his entry-level NHL contract with the Blueshirts on Monday.
