“He spoke of station development, a railway university, faster, cleaner trains, induction of new and clean technologies,” a former Railway Board member recalled, adding that after a slow start, Modi’s pet railway university project, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, became a reality in Vadodara in 2018. “A presentation on the Railways to the PM himself was unheard of,” a former Railway Board member who was part of the meeting told The Indian Express.

Railways is training over 9,000 personnel directly connected with station construction and management to handle the redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations, which, it estimates, will start getting ready in the next two years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday laid the foundation stone for 508 of the stations taken up for upgrade in the first phase for around Rs 24,700 crore.
