A litter pick was held at Whitecraig A LITTER pick in Whitecraig has been hailed a success after 15 bags of rubbish were collected. The recent event, organised by Musselburgh StreetClean, attracted six volunteers, mostly from the village itself. Debris picked up included tyres, industrial material believed to have been fly-tipped at Cowpits, plastic bottles, packaging, alcohol bottles, dog poo bags and cans.

Edinburgh-based artist Benet Haughton will display his work – ‘Lovers with Grieving Prophet’ – at St Peter’s Episcopal Church on High Street from May 17 to June 8. People can pop in on Wednesdays and Sundays, 10am-1pm, and Fridays and Saturdays, 10am-4pm. Benet works mainly in oils on canvas, saying: “I feel my work celebrates the joys and woes of life, the inner landscape of the human soul often inspired by the Bible.

Iain Elder is preparing for his latest charity challenge A MUSSELBURGH man is set to undertake a postponed paddleboard challenge along the East Lothian coast in aid of a trio of local charities. Intrepid fundraiser Iain Elder, 63, who has multiple sclerosis (MS), was ready last September to take to the Firth of Forth from Prestonpans to North Berwick on a paddleboard which will accommodate his wheelchair. But his feat was hampered by the weather conditions.

Granddad-of-three Stewart Thompson arrived at work outside the gates of Pinkie St Peter’s Primary School in Musselburgh on April 28 and, to his “big surprise”, saw a banner wishing him a happy 70th birthday.

This year's plant sale is even bigger after a superfast sell-out over the past two years left some people disappointed MUSSELBURGH Horticultural Society (MHS) is holding its biggest ever plant sale this Saturday in aid of local charities. The annual event will be held at St Michael’s Church Hall on Dalrymple Loan, with doors opening at 10.30am.
