When longtime Sullivan leader Jean McMahan lost her husband of 56 years earlier this year, she quickly decided to establish an unrestricted fund with the Sullivan County Community Foundation (an affiliate of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation) in his memory. “I thought it was the perfect timing to do the most good for our community,” McMahan said.

Another Sullivan High School athlete will be competing on the next level. On Monday, Kate Ridgway signed a letter-of-intent to play softball at the University of Evansville next year. “This is something that I have dreamt about for a long time,” said Ridgway, a left-handed pitcher who won 22 of 25 decisions with a 1.34 ERA and helped the Lady Arrows win the softball sectional in 2023. “I considered UIndy, IUPUI, Huntington and Murray State, but Evansville was it for me. “I love the coaches.

It has been a long road to the top for the Southmont High School football team and coach Desson “Doc” Hannum, a native of Dugger and a 1998 graduate of Union (Dugger) High School. Hannum, who is still the all-time leading rusher in the history of the Bulldogs, has been grinding away for 17 years as coach of the Mounties.

DUGGER - Terry McKee begins his second charge of the high school girls basketball program at Dugger Union Community School. McKee and the Lady Bulldogs posted a 8-14 record a year ago. Jackie Smith was lost to graduation. I was a teenager and I can vividly remember when this young coach from Army was named to take over the Indiana University men’s basketball program. Since I could remember, the Hoosiers were a big part of my life, and that of my dad, James Harold Hargis. He would let me stay up past my bedtime to watch the Hoosiers when they were on late.
