Greene County Daily World

The Greene County Daily World is a local newspaper that has been serving Greene County, Indiana, since its establishment in 1905. Previously known as the Linton Daily Citizen and the Bloomfield Evening World, it is currently owned by Rust Communications. The newspaper's journey began when Joe E. Turner sold his stake in the Linton Daily Call to launch a new semi-weekly publication called the Linton Citizen. In 1909, the Linton Citizen merged with the Linton Daily Call, taking on the name Linton Daily Citizen and quickly becoming the leading newspaper in Linton. In 2003, Rust Communications acquired both the Linton Daily Citizen and the nearby Bloomfield Evening World. These two publications were combined to form The Daily World in January 2006, which was later renamed the Greene County Daily World in January 2007.

Linton Stockton football had a fuse ignited when Braylon McBride was plugged in at quarterback late in the first half of a 26-7 win over Western. On Friday, clinging to a 6-0 lead, the No. 7 Miners (2-1) ran a hurry-up offense to notch a 42-second, six-play, 74-yard scoring drive to double the Miner advantage. Linton shifted the pocket as McBride, a senior, rolled out every time to either side on 4-of-6 throws.

Exactly 44 miles west of Bloomington, theres a small Hoosier State community that prides itself on blue-collar toiling. Historically, the late Wonga Phil Harris, the Disney voice actor, was born in Linton in 1904. The southern Indiana town is known for coal mining and, according to the Linton Chamber, its renowned for its triple-figure digits of lakes in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest.

Linton Stockton found a way through to its first win of its football campaign on a night aptly described as patchy. The Miners topped Monrovia for the fifth time in the past six matchups, 22-20 on Friday. Junior Paul Oliver lined up outside due to an ailing throwing shoulder and he resembled the antithesis of a decoy out of the gate. He had a couple of toe-taps in the back right corner of the end zone with a defender draped over him for the opening Linton score.

Linton Stockton rarely gets rocked at Roy Williams Field or any football field. Last Friday was definitely a shot in the mouth, senior Hank Gennicks said. We dont like doing that. I cant remember the last time thats happened to us, but its really an eye-opener. Its a good thing its Week 1 and we still have a long season. We can learn a lot from it. In the past three seasons, the Miners (0-1) have lost by more than two points just once.

Marion Local looked to extinguish the Linton Stockton football flame as soon as the 2024 season uncorked. The Flyers did just that to extend its nation-best winning streak to 49 games with a 45-6 win, including a six-touchdown edge after two quarters. Me and [senior lineman] Hank [Gennicks] are big on [leading], senior running and defensive back Jesse Voigtschild said. We do our best to try and keep the guys up. Out on the field tonight we were yelling the whole time trying to get everybody up.
