    The appointment of General Manager for the Visakhapatnam-headquartered South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone has come as a big relief for rail activists, from the region, who have been seeking early operationalisation of SCoR, since it was announced more than six years ago, in February 2019. The Railway Board issued orders on June 5, appointing Sandeep Mathur, as General Manager of SCoR.

    A 14-year-old girl tested positive for COVID-19 in the neurosurgery ward of King George Hospital (KGH). She was admitted to the ward for treatment of a brain tumour. “Usually, we conduct all tests before performing any surgery. She tested positive for COVID-19 through a rapid test kit. She was shifted to the isolation ward. The sample collected from her has been sent to the RTPCR lab for confirmation,” KGH Superintendent Dr. P. Sivananda told The Hindu on Thursday.

    As the State gears up for Yogandhra-2025, marking International Yoga Day on June 21, concerns are being raised about the timing of the mega event in view of the rising Covid-19 cases. The massive event proposed to be held on a 20-km stretch along the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to attend, is expected to draw over 5 lakh participants. The State government has also announced plans to mobilise thousands of participants for the event.

    The tribal people of Jeelugulova hamlet of the Cheemalapadu panchyat in the Anakapalli district were in a jubilant mood as they danced in gay abandon to the tunes of Dhimsa on Sunday (June 1, 2025) night. They had enough reason to cheer as their village got electricity for the first time. The hilltop village, located atop Samalammakonda, has a population of 50 persons, belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Kondh tribe.
