The risk of teenage childbearing can be associated with residence, media exposure, educational level, region, marital status, wealth index, use of contraceptive methods, sex of household head, and family size using a Generalized linear mixed effect model (GLM) with the appropriate link function.

This study included a total of 1232 households, with a response rate of 98%. The study participants’ average age was 49.5 years (SD = 12.25), with slightly more than half (50.7%) between the ages of 45 and 64 and 13.7% aged 65 and older. Males made up 1064 (86.4%) of the total household heads, with 1132 (91.9%) currently married. More than three-quarters of the study participants (78.9%) did not receive formal education, and 40.7% inhabit in semiurban areas.

A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Gurage Zone Hospital, Southern Ethiopia. It is bordered on the southeast by Hadiya, on the west Yem special woreda, on northeast Oromia Region, and by the southeast Silt’s Zone. According to the 2018/2019 annual report of the Gurage zone health office, there are seven hospitals and 72 health centers serving the total population of the zone.

This protocol was registered on PROSPERO on April 21, 2024, with the identification number CRD42024533975. As shown in Additional file 1, the protocol was written according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols (PRISMA-P) guidelines [27]. The systematic review and meta-analyses will be performed based on the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis [28].
