For every team that ascends the Top 20 rankings, another takes a tumble. That saying has never felt more accurate than it does in this week’s Top 20 rankings. With county and conference championship meets at its full peak, we are seeing what some of the state’s best teams are made of. The teams that soared in this week’s rankings were the ones who performed well at their respective county and/or conference championship meet.

Penn Relays is officially over. But the new postseason schedule means that teams and athletes have a quick turnaround for championship season, which includes a slate of county relays, county/conference championships, and other invitationals. We are officially three days into “championship season” and we’ve already seen some teams make their mark with team titles at championship meets. Our latest rankings factor in recent relay meets, including Penn Relays, and early championship results.

While championship season is finally here, relay season technically isn’t over yet. While most teams across the state will compete for county and conference championships this week, others are still in relay season, with a few county relay meets still occurring this week. We have reach the “peak” of relay season thus far in N.J. track and field. From championship winning throws in the shot put, county records in the 4x100, and historic times being ran in the 4x400, Penn Relays provided us with some of the best times and marks that will likely hold up until the rest of the season. But there were also meets such as the Woodbury Relays, GMC Red & White Division Championships and Morris Hills Relays that reset the state leaderboards in a massive way.
