The 2025 NJSIAA Group Championships put teams on the spot with a tough question.eCan you win a championship when your athletes are facing off against the fiercest competition their group has to offer? For six teams, the answer was a resounding yes. And of those six teams, four of them (Toms River North, North Brunswick, Demarest and Winslow) all firmly secured its spots within the upper echelon of the state rankings.

The No. 1 spot in our Fab 50 rankings has changed hands for the third straight week. For the first time this season, a distance runner occupies the top spot in the rankings. Ridgewood senior Luke Pash moved atop the rankings from the No. 9 spot last week after running the second fastest mile in state history last weekend. While most athletes on this week’s list haven’t competed over the last week, a few county and conference championship meets over the last week have helped shuffle the deck.

Just days remain in the N.J. track and field season – and the fun starts with the NJSIAA Group Championships on Friday and Saturday. Twelve meets – six boys and six girls – will be contested across three locations in the last team competition of the year. Champions will be crowned on Saturday and it will lead us into next Wednesday’s Meet of Champions.

For the second straight week, we have a new No. 1 track athlete in New Jersey individual power rankings. Cole Cramer, who topped our Fab 50 list last week, was officially announced as being out for the remainder of the NJSIAA season. With that comes a new No. 1 athlete, who hails from a Group 3 school in Newark. How did the rest of our rankings shape out following sectionals? Check out our rankings below. The race for the New Jersey’s No. 1 ranking has never been hotter. Last weekend, we crowned 16 state sectional champions across eight sites from Glenwood in Sussex County all the way down to Franklinville in Gloucester County. While we had a few county and conference championship meets this week, most teams are in full preparation for the group championships from May 30-31, where hundreds of teams will contend for six group state titles at Franklin, South Plainfield and Stockton University.

The N.J. boys track and field scene features an impressive array of athletes, from elite distance runners to sprinters and hurdlers who can fly on the track. Some of them have achieved times that place them high up on national leaderboards in their respective events, alongside others who have etched their names into the state record books. With so many great runners across the state, it leaves us with one question: Who is the best boys track athlete in the state?
