Commuters on Hwy. 401 through Milton could soon face more construction zones as the province looks to improve a busy stretch of the corridor. The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) is proposing major upgrades on the section of the highway between Steeles Avenue and Milburough Line, including a potential widening from six to 10 lanes — with high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes — as part of a long-term plan to ease congestion.

The Halton Board of Education has closed most school parking lots and kiss-and-ride zones during peak drop-off and pick-up times, citing unsafe conditions due to a growing student population and increased traffic. The result has been more congestion on nearby streets and a spike in parking tickets.

A long-anticipated zoning change for Milton Heights has sparked concerns among some residents who said they were left out of the planning process. At a public meeting held Monday, Town of Milton staff presented a proposal to rezone parts of the neighbourhood to a site-specific low-density residential zone. Senior planner Mollie Kuchma explained that the area has long been zoned for “future development” in anticipation of servicing and consolidation.
