Gareth Morse was a landscape painter, an inspirational teacher, and a leading force in the foundation of art within the Western Australian College of Advanced Education, now known as Edith Cowan University, during the 1980s. Born in 1932 in the hard-scrabble mining region of the Rhondda Valley, Wales, he excelled at school, before moving to Bristol as a young man. There he studied fine arts and calligraphy at the West of England College of Art.
