1 Melasma Melasma is a chronic dermatological condition that presents itself as brown or gray–brown hyperpigmented patches typically on photo-exposed areas [1]. It affects approximately 5–6 million people in the United States alone, and 1% of the global population [2]. Melasma affects all races, however individuals of Hispanic, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Asia, and African origin (Fitzpatrick skin phototypes III–V) are more likely to be affected by melasma [3].

1 INTRODUCTION Cosmetic dermatology is a continuously evolving field as per the demands of an aesthetic-conscious society. This specialized branch of dermatology focuses on enhancing the appearance of the skin, targeting concerns such as wrinkles, photodamage, skin laxity, and pigmentation. Cosmetic dermatologists are required to approach these concerns with a blend of evidence-based scientific understanding and artistic techniques to help patients achieve their desired cosmetic outcomes.
