    RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) - On Saturday, June 7, the 2024 Jackson County Junior Fair Queen, Natalie Donohew, will crown her successor in the Ripley High School auditorium. The pageant is set to begin at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for those five years old and over. Visiting royalty wearing their sash will be admitted for free. Over $4,500 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded. Eight young ladies will be vying for the title of 2025 Jackson County Junior Fair Queen.

    EVANS, W.Va. (WV News) – The 129th Boston Marathon took place on April 21, 2025. The event was a Platinum Label marathon, one of seven World Marathon Majors for 2025. This year, there was a local Jackson County tie; 31-year-old Jonathan Schiefer of Evans participated in the event. A 2012 graduate of Ravenswood High School, Schiefer is no stranger to running. “My dad was also a runner; he was in the military,” Schiefer said.

    RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WV News) – Constellium, along with WVU Parkersburg, hosted a signing celebration on Monday, June 2, welcoming five new students to the Skilled Trade Scholarship Program. For the sixth year in a row, the two facilities have partnered to offer the program, which gives students participating in mechanical and electrical studies, upon successful completion, a guaranteed job at Constellium following graduation from WVUP.

    RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) – Two Ripley High students, Addison Fatla and Sadie Brier, recently participated in a Young Writers contest at both the county and state levels. Their participation led them to an invitation to attend Young Writers Day. Although housed at Marshall University, the contest is through the Central West Virginia Writing Project. Each year, Young Writers Day takes place at the University of Charleston (UC) for its centralized location in the state.

How would that be possible without a queen to reign over the celebration? Ella Wilson, the 2024 Miss Ripley Fourth of July, will crown her successor at the event on Sunday, June 1. Eleven young ladies from around the state are set to compete for the coveted title of 2025 Miss Ripley Fourth of July.
