RUSSIAN dictator Vladimir Putin has said there has been “no need” to use nuclear weapons in the war with Ukraine — and he hopes they will “not be required”. And President Putin said Russia has the “strength and means” to bring the conflict in Ukraine to a “logical conclusion”. In a preview of an upcoming interview with Russian state television, published on Telegram, Putin said: “There has been no need to use those (nuclear) weapons and I hope they will not be required.

Barnardos has just launched their annual Big Toddle campaign with ambassador Louise Duffy and is calling on children to take part in a fun half-mile sponsored walk at pre-school, creche or at home — and at the same time raise funds for vulnerable kids and families.

PUNCHESTOWN punters basked in glorious weather as a number of star names visited the festival today. Well-known sporting greats and personalities gathered for the Ladbrokes Gold Cup, one of the highlights of the week. Ireland football legend Shane Long enjoyed a day sampling the action where he was seen posing for snaps with fans. Other celebs at the track included Elaine Crowley, Marty Morrissey, James Patrice and Joe Lynam.

IRELAND enjoyed record-setting sunshine today as 16 stations broke the record for April. Data from Met Eireann showed that 16 weather stations across the country recorded scorching highs. Met Eireann had predicted the mercury could rise to historic levels not seen in Ireland since last century. The national forecaster revealed that the hottest ever April was recorded in Donegal in 1984, and it was 25.8C.

BIG-hearted youngsters took shelter from the rays at a Barnardos charity launch today. The children’s charity was joined by a group of toddlers and Ambassador Louise Duffy to launch their annual Big Toddle at the Radisson Blu in Dublin. Pictured at the event was Joanie Ryan, 4, who took a quick break from duties to pose with an umbrella.
