    Chancellor Mark Fuller told a recent legislative committee hearing that a $100 million reconstruction of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Liberal Arts and Sciences (LARTS) building, the most heavily used building on the decades-old campus, is underway. The UMD website says the reconstruction project should take about 18 months. "Building occupancy and reopening will occur before the spring 2027 semester," according to the site.

    A recent Fiscal Alliance Foundation poll conducted in March offered some bad news for Massachusetts U.S. Senator Ed Markey, who plans to seek re-election next year, four months after his 80th birthday. The FAF poll gave Markey a 55 percent approval rating versus 30 percent disapproval, yet 55 percent of respondents don't want Markey to seek a third full term. Only 26 percent believe Markey deserves another term.

    I hate traffic cameras. They give me the creeps. It's as though someone is watching your every move and is ready to pounce if you step out of line. It's just too "Big Brother" for me. If you want to catch me speeding, put a cop out there. Rhode Island, where my in-laws live, uses traffic cameras. I feel spied upon whenever I visit. Massachusetts lawmakers have considered allowing local communities to install traffic cameras to catch speeders, red light jumpers and other roadway offenders.

    All is not well in Massachusetts, and voters say Governor Maura Healey is to blame. Healey, who faces re-election next year, cannot be happy with the results of a new poll from the University of New Hampshire showing fewer than half of Massachusetts voters approve of the job she is doing three years into a four-year term.
