Police arrested New York City comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander on Tuesday, June 17, at an immigration court in the city. His arrest comes as voters cast their early ballots in the race to unseat current Mayor Eric Adams. A Georgia man was arraigned on Monday, June 16, on federal charges stemming from alleged threats made against Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Deb Fischer of Nebraska, according to federal prosecutors. Robert Davis Forney, 25, of Duluth, is accused of leaving voicemails in January in which he threatened sexual violence against the senators. Prosecutors say he also threatened Cruz’s family.

Authorities arrested a man who allegedly handed out riot gear to people protesting the Trump administration’s immigration raids in Los Angeles. Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was charged with suspicion of conspiracy to commit civil disorders. In a social media post on Thursday, June 12, U.S. Attorney Bill Essayi said law enforcement detained Orellana “for distributing face shields to suspected rioters on Tuesday” near federal buildings in downtown Los Angeles.
