    A concrete pour on the bridge deck of a recently installed girder will result in a full overnight closure of the Fishhook connector at the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 17 in Santa Cruz on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.Travelers on northbound Highway 1 will be unable to use the connector to reach southbound Highway 17 or continue their travels on northbound Highway 1. Signs and traffic control crews will direct motorists to a detour.

    Valencia Elementary School in Aptos temporarily closed on Friday following an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness affecting several students, according to a letter sent out to parents by the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. There have been 93 reported cases at the school as of Nov. 5, with additional cases still being identified, according to a public health alert released by the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency.
