Despite producing his own music, having thousands of views on YouTube, and winning a state-wide music competition, Nic Beare has only ever had one chance to perform live in his hometown. The 20-year-old Mount Gambier rapper and vocalist said performing live on stage gave him a rush. "It just went from me sitting in my bedroom, writing songs on my phone and recording them on my laptop, to being up there on a stage in front of these people who were there to listen to me," he said.

South Australian graziers have been moving livestock north where feed is currently more plentiful. Parts of SA have received record low rainfall, leading some producers to agist their cattle in NSW. SA farmers have had some relief with limited rainfall, but the feed shortage persists. It is rare to see livestock trucks drive from the south to the north of the country in search of feed.

A study on the feasibility of a radiation treatment centre in Mount Gambier has found it would not be clinically safe. Advocates for the centre say this is "gut-wrenching" for cancer patients forced to travel to Adelaide for treatment. The local health network says it will invest in other improvements to cancer services, but treatment centre advocates say they won't give up.

Many poultry shows have been cancelled due to bird flu outbreaks, including one in Mount Gambier, SA, that relies on Victorian fanciers. The Royal Adelaide Show's pigeon, poultry, and egg competitions will not accept interstate entrants. The SA government says it will look at further measures if the illness reaches South Australia. Usually, at this time of year, poultry fancier Trevor Dent rarely has a weekend spare.
